Hi Russ,

There are two things to consider. First, how long a period of time do
you want the platform to track? The answer to this will determine how
long the arc must be. On my own platform, I've settled on 1 1/2 hours
total from one end of travel to the other although I only use about an
hour for most observing. The second point to consider is where is the
center of gravity of the DOB when mounted on the platform. Ideally, it
should be at a height so that the polar axis passes through the same
point or close to it. On my own platform the polar axis is very slightly
above the CG so that I can uncouple the drive when resetting and not have
to worry that a top heavy scope will fall over if I'm not careful. If
you take both these things into account, you will know where to slice off
the curve.

If I can be of any further help, feel free to let me know.
