[ATM] [OT] errors sent to posting members from an invalid address
Hi,
The reason people who posted on the list in the past weeks
were receiving error emails is that some one subscribed to
the list with an address that they subsequently dropped.
Usually dropping an address by a subscriber presents no
problems - when the list software sends e-mails out to
members, it asks the receiving server to report any errors
to the list server, and not to the original sender (his is done
so that no unnecessary error emails are generated by common
delivery problems).
However, the mail server for that particular address is configured
the wrong way - instead of using the correct return address,
it ignores it and delivers errors to the address of the sender
instead.
I have removed the offending address, so now posting to the list
shouldn't generate useless messages anymore. Still, since errors
generated in this manner may completely bypass the list server and
the administrators (unless they themselves are active on the list),
in the future if you receive an error message to an email you
have _only_ send to the list address, please report it to the list
administrator address.
Thanks for your understanding, and sorry for the trouble.
Simeon
