Re: [ATM] motor drive question

Eric,

You might look at what's available from one of the sources I've included
here.

http://www.techmax.com/small-electric-motors/

http://www.herbach.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=HAR

http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreCatalogDisplay?store
Id=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1

http://www.surplusshed.com/

There are a few more that you can get from a Goggle Search if you look
for surplus, electric motors, gearmotors etc..

Good luck,

Jarvis

Jarvis,

That's what I suspected. I timed it out roughly last night and it came
out to 1rmp per 12 minutes. I wasn't sure if I could get an appropriate
gear to step it up. How difficult are 1rmp motors to come by? Does anyone
know of any common sources?

Hi Eric,

Do you know how fast the Orion motor turns? It's probably one revolution
every 15 minutes which matches the rate needed for a 96 tooth worm gear.
Chances are that the rotation speed for the Scotch mount is 1 RPM so you
will need to gear-up the Orion's speed. It would probably be easier to
get a 1 RPM motor and depending on the motor type, you might be able to
use the Orion controller.
