[ATM] motor drive question

Hello all,

I'm looking for a little help for the mathematically impaired (me).

I'm attempting to build a double arm scotch mount to bring with me on a trip
to Ireland in August. I'm trying to follow this design:

The actual construction is no problem, especially since he gives all the
measurements. The problem is that the motor I'm trying to work with is a
standard Orion telescope single axis drive/controller. So does anyone know
if that is easily adapted to the application I want to work with? Does it
have to be stepped up/down with gears or can I hook it directly up to the
threaded rod and have it work reasonably well?

Any help and advice would be appreciated!
