My results are similar with a Philips Vesta Pro (same CCD as ToUCam,
IIRC). 30mm f.l.; 25mm f.l. and 20mm f.l. All coated achromatic lens
with homemade cells. A grid was not used but a black and white box cover
from a Seagate hard drive that I just bought was used in front of my
mirror. An image was zoomed, text lines were checked for "straightness"
and the images checked for "waviness". I know, not scientific. Call it
my two cents.

BTW, the Human Eyeball is a terrible lens / detector system, and an eye
at the 
knife edge is industry standard for several well known companies.
