It is the position of the thread on the lens, which is at some distance from
the rear edge. The threading on the original lens went all the way to the
edge. It is impossible to focus on things at infinity, let alone on objects
that are much closer.
I have made an adapter which slides over the short barrel extending from the
front of the toucam II, but this is much more flimsy as a fitting objective
would be. What I need is a lens with the threading to the edge, and then
hope that the barrel is long enough...
