The drawing are only meant as a guide for building the chair. They
represent the actual chair that I built but any amt'er should have no
problem adjusting the plans to suit available material. The use of 3/4"
stock should not prose a problem as long as it is a good clear wood.
Even pine for the mail body should be strong enough as long as there are
no knots, but I would use a hardwood for the seat and back legs. It
could even be made of steel or alum if you have the equipment to handle it.
As for finish, that is up to the individual, but I used an outdoor
urethane finish over the red oak.
My chair really has only two contact points with the ground and in the
ten years of use I have not had any problem with ground contact
balance. I might point out that almost all of the commercial chairs are
4 point contact :-)
