Sizes mentioned are usually the size that the wood is sold as.
Thus a 1x2 is actually .75"x1.75" in size.  If you want actual
size to be the 1x2 then you have to take some larger lumber and
cut it down.  You can generally get hardwoods that are the real
1" size but you have to order 1.25" lumber and then rip it to
widty.
