Before trying a full vacuum kiln, I'd try just a piston pump
setup to get most of the air out of the chamber.  I've found with
investment casting molding that just the level of vacuum from a
injector type vacuum source (shop air in, vacuum out one port and
shop air+ out the other port plus a bit of noise) is enough to
pull bubbles from the plaster in short order.  That level of
vacuum also does an excellent job with resin to get the air out.
