Re: [ATM] Some fun ATM plans and more. (Plain text I hope.)

Sorry about the HTML in my previous note.

Ed,

I have a question about the big Meade. I too, have a 16" Starfinder dob,
which I bought from a friend. The motions are nowhere as nice as my
homemade 8" dob. When I look between the ground boards, I see a piece
of teflon around the pivot bolt and probably about 8 teflon pads near the
perimeter. The other surface is Ebony Star. There are also about 8
feet/pads. My understanding, from reading Kreige and Berry a few yrs ago,
is that there should be 3 teflon pads and 3 feet directly below them.
Having 8 or so feet makes it difficult to place the scope on uneven
ground. Do you have an opinon about which approach is better for these
big particleboard dobs? Someday, I'll convert it to a truss or build a
better base, but for now I just want to improve the motions.

The altitude bearings are still the small plastic discs, but the
semicircular cutouts in the base are fully lined with long, skinny
EZ-Sliders.  That seems to work, but I'd prefer to put on larger
bearings,
too.

Thanks,
Bill Kocken

My Meade 16 inch starfinder had some minor mods done to the base.
I added new pieces of Teflon to the ground board and added some feet/pads
made out 2x2 oak.
