[ATM] The Waindle pie plate grinder, looking for ideas
I thought I should expand on this a bit. The machine has the tool on the
bed and the pie plate rests on top of the tool and is controlled by the
overarm. The tool and the arm move in the same rotation, same direction,
so this may be canceling out any small counter rotational jumps that the
plate makes as it moves across the tool during a stroke.
I built a bumper board on the back of the machine and added a rubber strip
so that as the overarm rubs the pie plate against the strip it "kicks" the
pie plate well enough to counter rotate it through 360 degrees in about 13
strokes, sometimes more, sometimes less. The key seems to be the points
that restrain the pie plate. If they drag too much the kick is canceled.
I made some little roller bearing using a copper tube with a screw in the
middle. This helped. The original restraining points were small
finishing nails.
Also, if the rim of the plate is wet there is not enough friction to move
the plate.
This works, but a bit more control would be nice.
