Re: [ATM] Coating not Adhering on Glass

Hi Bob,

Done by a couple of guys trying to get a decent coating. The chamber has
generated good results in the past on other mirrors using the same cleaning
and prep procedure so I don't know why it would fail twice on this glass?
Could the glass have contaminants which are not favourable to coatings?

In our second attempt we tried a final cleaning with methyl hydrate. Have
you heard of anyone doing this before?

Thanks,

Peter

You didn't mention whether the mirror was done by yourself or by
a professional shop.
I'll assume that you're doing it by yourself.
First off, you need to clean throughly without getting your skin
oils on the glass. This is the most probable way of getting
stuff on the glass that happens. You also need to use scroupsly
clean cloths or paper towels as they can carry the skin oils onto
the glass. You also don't want to use the fancy soaps when
washing your hands and any cloths but rather use basic cleaners.
Next, you need to do a cleaning step in the chamber to get any
liquids off of the surface. The plasma cleaning is what is
usually used. This process takes a while as the liquids may not
want to vaporize rapidly.
