Richard, have you tried convex edges on the blocks?  This will make the
center fuze first followed by the expansion to the edges.  You only need a
llittl bit of convexity so something like 1000" ROC would probably be
enough.  You could probably do the curvature in the long direction as this
won't affect the support of the glass before firing.
I'm thinking that you only want a fraction of a tenth of a thou. for a sag.
