Re: [ATM] First mail to atm list: "inbetween"grits
Gary, please hit the reply to the post rather than start a new thread! This
makes it a lot easier in the archives as well as allows me to find what you
are replying to if I have to. As it is, you just started a new thread with
your reply and that reply should have been in the thread of the original
post.
The process for washing grits is fairly simple.
Put the grits in a large enough jar. Any full diameter jar or bucket will
do fine.
Put water in the jar and swish everything about well. You will see that the
bottom of the jar will quickly turn black with the grit falling out. When
the water gets to a light gray color, pour off the water without getting the
grit in the bottom of the jar to go out also. Repeat as many times as
necessary (usually 3 times at a minimum) until the water doesn't go white)
and you will see that the gray of the grit is now back to it's original
color. At this point, you may want to seperate the heavy large grit from
the lighter grit so get another jar and when you do a good swish,
immediately pour the water into the second jar with a delay depending upon
how fine a grit you want.
Use the grit from the first jar on the mirror in small amounts so that it
doesn't tend to flow over the sides and that will grind that grit down
further.
If you do things right, you can go all the way down to the final grind and
then polish the mirror.
