I've updated my graphic with both sling and (for the lack of a better term)
bolt/bearing designs. The second alternative has some bracing added.

There's one oddity about the mirror I should have mentioned - it tapers
slightly. For lower supports I could use chair leg swivel glides, like the
ones sold at this site:
