Re: [ATM] Industrial-strength mirror sling

I did just that with a 36" x 2" thick mirror..used plastic coated
5/16" cable. I bored 1/2" thread stock to fit the cable and attached
it thru the holes with several setscrews. This allows the threaded rod to
go thru
a support bracket with nuts on the other side to adjust the position
of the mirror vertically. Grooved blocks on the underside edge of the
mirror served as guides to center the cable on the axial CG of the mirror.
Another heavy duty sling technique is roller chain..very stiff longitudinally,
but conforms to the mirror's edge. Thin Teflon strip is used between the
sling and mirror edge. I used this method on a 32" 300 lb mirror, the
sling was 5/8" roller chain. 1/4" roller chain will support 800 lbs
and would be more than adequate for smaller mirrors. Roller chain
is available at bearing supply stores in 10' lengths, also at
bicysle parts stores in 3/8" pitch.
