Depth control, of course, is a very important part of doing such fast work.
Any slop in anything related to the control of where the grinding wheel is
will end up making the depth of the cut vary by at least that much.
If I started doing such work, I'd suspect that I'd suspend the arm from
something overhead and let the slack go out of any sloppy joints that way.
If I had to do the work horizontal, a pin with good 0 clearance bearings at
the pivoted end would be the way to go.  The diamond blade would be
perpendicular to the mirror so that slop in the shaft working in and out
wouldn't be a problem.
Anything in the way of clearances being able to move the cutting surface
into the work has to be eliminated for best effect.
