This evening as my wife and older son amd I sat in a local park for the
firworks, a great deal of time was given to a show of support for our
service people in Iraq and Afganistan.  My son turned to me and asked
how I felt about all of this attention being give to the military.  As a
Vietnam veteran, I have told him how I was "greeted" upon my return from
overseas duty.  

I have nothing but sympathy and prayers for our people in those
countries.  I am glad that they are being welcomed back.  If only my
fellow Vietnam vets and I had received such appreciation..........

To all the Vietnam veterans on the list:  since no one else welcomed us
back, there has been a growing custom among us when we meet.  "Welcome
home; glad you made it back safely!"

Happy Independence Day to you all!
