    I had this same problem.  Save yourself a lot of time and grind the back
flat as soon as you get it.  It doesn't have to be pretty or perfect.  It
shouldn't take long, maybe an hour, tops.  But it could save you
hours/weeks/months, if you it saves you from getting astigmatism.  Other
than that, the stuff is fine to work with.
