[ATM] Second Secondary - Intel Motherboard
The PC has a new 460 watt Power Supply and while the fans in the supply work fine, the cooling fan for the cpu still did not work.
The 3 pin motherboard power supply it uses is close to the CPU. I disconnected it from there and connected it elsewhere on the board.
The fan powered up immediately when the system was switched on. I then moved it to yet a third 3 pin power port. Nothing.
The heat sink for the CPU gets warm so we have power to the CPU but with two dead power ports, I suspect that there is a open 12 volt
power circuit on the motherboard that is interfering with critical functions other than the cooling fans.
Intel is closed as I write this. First thing Wednesday morning I'll call tech support to see if there is any remaining warranty but there's
little need to be concerned.
There have been two major design revisions since I bought this board in 2001. I can probably replace the damn thing for $60, likely
less. It's stupid to invest too much time on a disposable commodity.
