[ATM] Recent Robo-Glass mill results
Greetings All,
I've been putting the glass mill to work lately, and just wanted to share a few
things I've learned:
#1 Cheap diamond blades are not cost effective. Their diamond content is
lacking when compared to 'expensive' diamond blades.
#2 Continuous rim blades definitely give a better cut.
#3 Its important to keep changing the RPM of the turntable based on the current
radius of the cutting blade. So far, best results occur at 6 inches of
circumference past the cutter per second. Any more and I start to get chatter,
any less and it just takes longer to generate the shape.
Here are some pictures of some recent results:
#1 Three 10" plate glass tools, convex generated in 25mins each. (+7 mins to cut
each disk from square stock) Also note improved surface condition as I played
with cutting speed.

#2 A 10" diameter, 1.63" thick Pyrex, generated to F/4.8, and a plate glass
tool.

#3 A 16" diameter, 1" thick Pyrex, generated to F4.5 concave in one hour: (Last
three images show the result of a single wet of 120 grit, tool on top, worked by
hand just to see what would happen.)
