Oslo will help with perfect lens design but in reality, most designs are
fairly simple and there are simple formulas for the FL of the lenses to be
used and their relative locations and this is usually enough for most work.
Don't bother with a lathe for working your glass as you will quickly destroy
the lathe with the water used to cool a diamond tool and keep the glass dust
wet.  Many opticians have died over the years from inhaling glass dust and
getting miner's disease from it.  Better to do the work with grit and so
forth and keep everything wet so that the glass dust doesn't kick up.
