At $5000 starting it would take a pretty dedicated amateur to start a 
project with this :-) And at 300lb's it is going to make transport a 
real pain. I wounder how much trouble it would be to slice it in half 
and make two blanks :-) Zerodur is a lot harder than pyrex and will take 
conciderably longer to grind and polish. There should be a few posts in 
the archive about its use.
Maybe a nice club project
