[ATM] Mirror cell design

Hi group,

A few weeks ago I bought a copy of Kriege and Berry's "The Dobsonian
Telescope". In chapter 5 it is explained how to design and build a
primary mirror cell.
Looking around on the internet I found several links for crrating a
split ring equatorial mount and almost all of the images of the final
scopes on those mounts closely resemble the truss tube design of Kriege
and Berry.
I haven't made up my mind yet if I want to build a dob or equ scope and
one of the desiding factors will be the primary mirror cell. Would
anyone know how to modify the Kriege and Berry design so it will support
a large thin mirror in an equ scope? Would replacing the sling with e.g.
a ring or plugs like on this page

be enough? I suppose the flotation system is symmetric enough not to
require any modifications. Is this true?

Thanks in advance!
