[ATM] New Feature on ATM List - File Uploads! (please read)

Over the years, the thing people on the list have asked for most is a way to
attach images/files to their ATM list posts. There were at least 3 good
reasons for not allowing this:

1. The list software didn't support it.
2. It puts a burden on those who don't have the cheap high bandwidth access
that some of us have.
3. It allows viruses to spread via the list.

Well, now we (well, Simeon and Ken) have control over the list server and can
install any software they want. Reasons 2 and 3 still apply, however. So,
with a bit of good work by Simeon, we now have a file upload area. Here's how
it works:

Let's say I want to show list members a foucaultgram of my mirror to ask for
figuring help. I can go to http://www.atmlist.net, click on "Upload files"
and enter the email address and password that I am subscribed to the list
with (if you have forgotten your password, click on "Subscribe, unsubscribe,
manage your subscription options" and then "Unsubscribe or edit options" and
you will be taken to a page where you can have your password emailed to you).

I can then upload a file which will appear on the ATM list server at
http://www.atmlist.net/contrib/mikell-at-optonline-dot-net (note that the
last part will be generated from your email address).

I can then use the URL of that file in my post to the ATM list like this:

Here's what my mirror looks like! How can I get rid of this central hill?

Of course, with awesome power comes awesome responsibility.

---------========== Rules =======----------

(1) You must be a list member to upload files.

(2) The upload passwords may lag behind the list passwords by up to two hours.
If you change your list password or are a new subscriber, and can't upload a
file immediately, that's why.

(3) If you change your email, your old files remains in their old place in the
state you left it. New files will go in a directory (folder) with your new
email address' name.

(4) Use this directory for ATM stuff ONLY. Private uploads, offtopic
contents, illegal or copyrighted material (that you do not hold the copyright
to), etc. are not permitted. We may ask you to remove such material, or
remove it for you. Abusers may be banned from the list, etc. etc.

(5) Please be courteous to other list members. If you want to post your
foucault readings, do that in a normal message as text - don't upload a
screen shot of the readings...if you have a new spider design, upload a GIF
file rather than an XYZ cad drawing that nobody can read without buying
XYZ-CAD (you could upload both the image and CAD files)...you get the idea.

(6) There are no enforced quotas for the moment, but please keep your total
uploads under 50MB. Stuff of EXCEPTIONAL value in any one user's directories
could exceed 50MB after confirming it with administrators at
atm-owner@atmlist.net.

(7) No fancy stuff. If your files end in .shtml they will be parsed for
includes (see section for SSI in the apache documentation), but no file
execution is allowed and no CGIs will work (you can upload them for
others to download, though).

(8) If you have problems, as always, please email atm-owner@atmlist.net and
please be patient- this is a brand new service, and no doubt there are bugs
to be worked out.

Clear skies.
