Re: [ATM] Turned Down Edge

Something to be remembered because it happens often but
 is rarely recognized.

Michael Lindner wrote:
"If you never touch the edge, but deepen the center, you are, in effect,
turning the edge (without touching it)."

And Charles Mitchard independently:
"Well, I have at last produced an excellent sphere. It has taken me long
enough and seemed to be an impossible task.
It kept forming a TDE of varying widths, zones galore, almost disappearing
but then returning. I was in the black depths of despair.
But at last I can continue and hopefully finish the beast.
The desired figure seems to come and go as polishing progresses. Keep
polishing and eventually the shape appears. I think what happens is that a
sphere is polished, this one doesn't quite reach the edge of the mirror so
it looks like a huge TDE then another sphere polishes and so on and so on
until one of them eventually reaches the edge."

[By the way Charles is the rare one if not the only one who routinely and
successfully uses
submerged polishing method ( and some other clever tricks).]
