[ATM] Re:How much of cell induced deformation is too much?

Hi John,

>You seem to know an awful lot about this stuff, I like that in a
person.<

Good. I like to be liked by nice people, who open up their heart to me...

>Do you know this from personal experience, or did you read it in a
book?? Because it is not true. Perhaps you are accoustomed to bad seeing
at your house, but here in southern California we are accustomed to very
good seeing on a regular basis. On most nights we can easily see the
difference between mirrors which have been tested in the high 90's
Strehl, and mirrors which are only 85 - 90%. You are welcome to come out
for a comparison (I don't know where you live). <

I haven't noticed that what I wrote implies that one can't see the
difference of nearly 10% in the Strehl. Maybe you can enlighten me?

>"non-existent near-perfect optical quality"

Hunh????

Obviously you NEED to look through my Kennedy 22", even if you have to
travel half-way around the world to do so!! Or how about my friend's 24"
Kennedy? A few months ago someone known in the AA community was up on his
ladder, and half of the parking lot heard him exclaim: "WOW! This scope
star tests like my 8" Zambuto super-planetary scope!"<

In order to meaningfully star-test this size telescopes, you need to use
800x-1000x magnification. And if you can do that, you should be able to
use this kind of magnification for observing as well. If you really can
do it on a regular basis, you have better than exceptional seeing there.
Wish it was only five times worse than that here in northern NJ.

When can we expect you?

As soon as you do some reading. Believe or not, we don't come to this
world knowng everything, and don't get it just from the personal
experience neither. Not that reading will give you absolute knowledge; at
least, you wouldn't take it as an insult to your telescope when I mention
facts about its actual field quality.

Vlad
