Re: [ATM] Re:How much cell induced deformation is too much?

Hi Vladimir,

You seem to know an awful lot about this stuff, I like that in a person.

>For apertures ~16" and larger, seeing alone will take care of it
>nearly 100% of the time. Considering this, an attempt to preserve
>non-existent near-perfect optical quality by nearly elliminating cell
>induced error seems pointless.

Do you know this from personal experience, or did you read it in a book?? Because it is not true. Perhaps you are accoustomed to bad seeing at your house, but here in southern California we are accustomed to very good seeing on a regular basis. On most nights we can easily see the difference between mirrors which have been tested in the high 90's Strehl, and mirrors which are only 85 - 90%. You are welcome to come out for a comparison (I don't know where you live).

With our scopes, we require the best cells we can make.

>"non-existent near-perfect optical quality"

Hunh????

Obviously you NEED to look through my Kennedy 22", even if you have to travel half-way around the world to do so!! Or how about my friend's 24" Kennedy? A few months ago someone known in the AA community was up on his ladder, and half of the parking lot heard him exclaim: "WOW! This scope star tests like my 8" Zambuto super-planetary scope!"

When can we expect you?

John
