Also a very similar device would be a snap shackle . Wichard, Ronstan ,
probably Lewmar and Harken make them.

Some racing sailboats have solid rod rigging (stainless steel ) instead of
cable . The most aerodynamic types of rod rigging are flattened, similar to
a wing in cross section. The trade name is Dyform Wire . There are swaged
fittings made for Dyform Wire in all shapes and sizes , although I don't
recall if I've ever seen a pelican hook for it . This is more of a lifeline
fitting .
