Re: ATM Spanner Wrench, How to make (RE: Astroscan Cleaning)

My trick is a bit involved but I take two screwdrivers and hold them up near
the top with one stick (usually with duct tape if the spread is wide) and
use a second stick at the bottom by the lens which is in a soft jawed
(several layers of hard foam or cloth) chuck. Gentle rapping will get the
job done but it's a bit tricky. Now I have a spanner wrench with removable
jaws but I don't remember how much I paid for it or where I got it but it's
a pair of rods for the span and two larger rods for the two vertical holders
for the actual replacable tips. Cheaper ones don't have the replacable jaws
but rather are just the curved cutout screwdriver style cuts so that the tip
itself is parallel. They are fairly easy to build if you have the drill
press as you just take and drill two holes in two pieces of steel stock (O1
or A1 is great stuff and isn't expensive) and put decent tips at the bottom
of those tips. Two smaller rods that just fit in (you will want one side of
each to be a press fit) and if you want, a screw down to pinch the top
crossbar.
