Yes there was an article in an old Telescope Making or Sky & Tel
where someone used a large clamp for a sector drive. They made 
a disk for the sector and relieved a little of the wood on the edge
of the disk. then attached a long clamp flat section to the disk. 
Then they made a worm from the worm parts brazed in the middle 
of a shaft and drove it with a sycronous motor. If I come across the
article I will post refrences.
