Hi Steve,
For what it's worth, I needed to know the same thing for a scope I just
finished. I used 1/2" appleply and just held it while standing on a
bathroom scale, and then subtracted my weight. The sheet weighed 44 lbs.
Divided by 4,608 square inches gave .0095 lbs./sq inch. That info (plus
huge trunnions) gave a very nicely balanced scope. You can probably take a
bathroom scale to the lumberyard and do the same thing. Good luck.
