For making holes in the middle of round pieces of wood, the best way is to
actually make the hole first and then make the round afterwords. There is a
well tried and true technique of using a pin and turning the wood over the
top of a table saw blade which is gradually raised. The outside of the cut
is not square (the blade makes it a concave angle cut) but the inside part
is a nice vertical cut and that cut is exactly around the pin in the middle.
