If you press a fingernail into the pitch with about 5lb of force for about 3
seconds and get more than a mark on the pitch more than a few thousandths of
an inch deep, your pitch is too soft and you need to either cool the room or
harden the pitch up a bit.  Pitches come in different temp ranges and you
may have some pitch for a cold basement rather than the warm garage.
