Bill, others,

I went to S&Ts web page and used the Excite based search engine there to
find "Allyn Thompson", this after not finding a link to an index anywhere.
>From the search I discovered that Kevin Krisciunas at the University of
Washington has kindly and graciously created a biographical index to Sky &
Telescope, which S&T hosts on its web site.  In this index I found the
following:

    Thompson, Allyn J. (1901-1955)
    Aug 55 (14,10) 411


The University of Washington, you're getting something out of it whether
you go there or not.
