ATM Advance in CCDs
I opened my copy of Lasers and Optronics today to find a great piece of
news for ATMs interested in CCDs. Kodak has just announced a new gate
electrode technology that essentially doubles the quantum efficiency,
including a big boost to the blue sensitivity. By replacing the
standard poly silicon transparent electrodes with indium doped tin
oxide, performance on a par with thinned, back-illuminated CCDs is
achieved, but without the attendant cost. QE for the new design is 30%
at 400 nm, and 65% from 550 to 700 nm. While it is initially being
offered on the KAF-1401E, the claim is that a full range of products
will be offered in this version. Their trade name is "Blue Plus".
