  I also used 10" alum. irrigation pipe for my 8."  I used 4, 1" wide 
inside tube rings ( 3/4" birch ply, )  to reinforce the tube. One at 1 
foot in front of the primary, one at front of tube and two sandwiching 
the spider and focuser. I did this to baffel the tube as well as 
reinforce.I also used adhesive backed felt for additional baffling. I 
have not had  any tube current problems to date but i havent used the 
present arrangement that long to know for certian weither fans may 
eventualy be in order.
