Hi
 For azimuth rotation, putting a center teflon pad around
the center bolt works. Shim the pad enough that it supports
just enough weight that the three outer pads still keep
it from wobbling. Use the natual spring of the base board
to support this center pad and don't have anything touching
the ground other than the three points under the outer pads.
 For altitude, moving the pads to a larger seperation angle
will increase friction.
 You may already know these but I thought I'd pass it on anyway.
