Re: ATM rubber mold for pitch lap
>rubber mold for pouring pitch laps
First, I think using a mold for anything larger than a 6" is a waste of
time. Channeling with a razor is tricky at first, but one can get quite
good at it. To contain the mess put the lap in a large container filled
with water about up to the lap top. Add a little dish soap to help with
wetting and cut to it (sorry ;-)). Just splash some water over the lap to
rinse the pitch bits.
That said, I got the piece of rubber for my 12.5" button lap at a gasket
dealer. The company made gaskets to order and had all sorts of stock. I
told them what I was looking for and they gave it to me. Seems it was the
hole.
Last, to cut small holes in rubber, freeze it first, then drill it like
wood. Liquid nitrogen is ideal for this, but short of that dry ice works.
