Interesting, and I have read that silver is very stable in water.
I tried it with some polished silver spoons and this seems to be
valid. As for the sulfer, this is in the air and is directly
involved in the tarnishing reactions during oxidation. I just
don't have time, but would be very interested to hear what happens
if someone just silvered a mirror and kept half of it under
water for about a year.
