Re: [ATM] soldering aluminum



The "soldering" process is relatively weak compared to a proper
welding job.  The problem is that the solder used is not very
strong and large gapped joints will be very weak.
The soldering job also needs to be done quickly and requires a
very clean aluminum surface as the oxides of aluminum don't cling
to the aluminum very well and the solder doesn't like to cling to
the oxide at all.  Much better to MIG or TIG weld the stuff
together. That way, you get a solid aluminum joint which is
almost as stron as the metal itself.  Do be careful as to what
type of aluminum you are doing as some weld better than others.
