[ATM] Fw: Mirror Silvering


Silver coating  corrodes much faster than  vacuum evaporated  aluminum .

 Another urban legend, widespread among ATM.

 It may sound absurd, but aluminum is extremely prone to corrosion.
 Much more than silver. In fact it corrodes instantly. What makes it
 advantageous compared to silver is that corrosion product of aluminum,
 aluminum oxide, is transparent and  very hard, protecting aluminum
 chemically, from further corrosion, and mechanically, as bonus from nature.

 There is multilayer  coating procedure protecting silver, but this
 is so expensive that ATM can not even think of it.
