Re: [ATM] ritchey cretians, fused quartz
Ah! Not really a good place for an observatory! Way too much
light for anything serious and a scope that big really isn't
portable at all. I' ve seen a Newtonian dob that big at RTMC and
it was a serious project to do anything with it. Worse yet is
that the scope was so short a focal length that even a Parr corr
failed to corrct the coma in the image.
I'd probably consider retiring down in West Texas by the McDonald
Observatory where there are some Vey dark skies. The Texas Star
Party is held tnear thgere so you can get a preview of the area.
The Calif. mountain tops are quickly getting light polluted so
I'd recommend against them anymore. I'm about a half hour of
driving from the Hale scope and when I go0 up the South Grade,
the only time that the light pollution isn't real bad is when the
lowlands are covered in clouds from off of the ocean. (In another
twenty years or so, there will probably be housing developments
at the base of the mountain and that will be the end of that.
