Re: [ATM] Figuring help for Lutfu

Also, to add to what mike said, if the pitch is too hard work
somewhere warmer. I found that when I moved to a slightly warmer spot the
TDE reduced faster. I was able to press much quicker so I could work shorter
sessions and press more often for better contact.

I saw the pictures of your lap and it appears to be flowing so this
may not be a problem.

I had a similar problem to yours on my 6". But I will say from your
test pictures your TDE is small/mild. On my 6 I believe it was a combo of
getting my COC stroke right, along with some 1/3 W strokes that finally
"feathered" out my TDE. Looking ay my notes I went from about 1/2 Wave TDE
(I would guess more than you have, but hard to tell) to no TDE after about
two hours of 1/3 COC and about three hours 1/3 W stroke. I was also oblate
so this made it head for a sphere quickly; although it did dig a slight hole
in the center. Anyway, I have found either stroke will remove TDE, but it
may take awhile.

Let me say I did try it ALL. Short strokes, long strokes, medium
strokes, offset strokes, accented pressure MOT and TOT, trying to "pull the
glass" away from the TDE, even using my thumb as a tool.

After all this mumbling the best advice I can give you is this:
Press well, don't work unless the contact feels perfect, and keep the lap
micro faceted good like I saw in your picture to help this. Use whichever
stroke your comfortable with, the 1/3 COC or 1/3 with some "W" action.
Whichever you find maintains a relatively good sphere. After you get all
that...
Polish away, check the TDE about every half hour to see if it's getting
better and if you're keeping a sphere. If after polishing for around an hour
and a half or two hours you notice no improvement, we will have to try
something else.

The best medicine is time, if I learned anything on my first mirror
it is that I did best not fiddling with different techniques every few
minutes and just sticking it out and polishing with good contact for a few
hours. If then the edge still has not gotten better, we must look at other
variables such as your stroke, your lap, etc.

Your TDE is small by the looks of your Ronchi Grams and you should
notice improvement in a reasonable amount of time. When you get to building
a Foucault tester, it is easier to judge the width and severity of a TDE
from session to session in my opinion.

Good Luck,
Polish away!

Mitch
