That's the sort of thing that most of the
"how to grind a big thin mirror" articles
say to do to keep irregularities in the
grinding stand from producing errors in
the glass - put some sort of resilient
material (e.g. carpet or "astro-turf")
behind the mirror; in fact "edge sling
and carpet backing" seems to be a recommended
as a preferred (non-distorting) means of
support for testing these pieces also...
