Well no, cement won't do (it's the water of crystallisation, and the readily
freed CO2 that are the problem, and the strength of the material), but a mix
of plaster of Paris and alumina will work (from a thermal point of view, I
don't know about the microwaves though), it is quite stable up to around
900'C (at which point even Pyrex flows at an acceptable rate), but over this
temperature and it starts to decompose releasing SO2....

Well, cement has a lower dielectric constant than glass.  Is it possible 
to make cement/concrete moulds for glass that won't crack from the 
thermal stress?
