Regarding annealing...

1. The original video notes that glass only becomes a conductor when 
it's heated to red hot (hence the preheating with a torch). Therefore, 
annealing is out, since the glass will become too cool to be heated by 
the microwaves.

2. The interior of home microwave ovens is plastic. It would melt and 
burn if sustained at annealing temperatures.
