[ATM] Benjamin Pikes Son's New York
I have an antique brass refractor tube. The lens and cell is missing but I
have the end piece that is the base of the push pull cell. The tube is about
5 inches in diameter and about 54 inches long. The focuser is missing but I
have the tail plate it would mount to. That part is inscribed Benjamin
Pike?s Sons New York.
I have done some internet searching on Benjamin Pike?s Sons and have found
some information about Pike and his sons. But I have not yet found a
reference to them doing business with exactly that name.
Seems the scope this tube was part of could have been made any time from the
1860s to about 1916. I am guessing the scope was about 4 ¼ inch f:16.
I would appreciate if any one has seen an example of such a telescope or has
any knowledge of the Pikes? and their scopes would share what they know.
I would like to put my 4? lens in it and make the lens cell and tail piece
as much as it would have been on the original scope. And then of course make
a suitable mount much as it would have been for the original.
Thanks
Jerry
