Dave:
      I had good luck hogging out my 12.5 inch fused silica blank to  
an f/4 using recolabs diamond grinder wheel.  I put it in a drill and  
used back and forth strokes while walking around the blank.  Of course  
I did this with a battery operated drill and kept the surface wet.  It  
still took me about 30 hours to get the right sagitta and a decent  
curve out to the edge, man that stuff is hard! I'm at 220 grit right  
now with a full size tool and will  be finishing up with that in a  
couple of hours.
