[ATM] Removing a chrome (?) coating layer - THE END

Hi All,

After about one and a half week in the (nearly) concentrated
hydrochloric acid/glycerin bath, the following was observed.

On about 20% of the surface, the coating was gone. That was the area
where the coating, and, as it turned out, some of the glass (ouch!) has
already been scratched by previous attemps to remove the coating with
very fine emery. Upon close inspection, I still could see some residuals
of the coating.
The coating was still perfect on the area that was not treated mechanically.
The solution did also not work better when finally brought indoors and
allowed to reach room temperature.

Result: Took a circular glass tool with approximately the same roc left
over from another project, and fine ground the surface until all
residues of the coating and the scratches were gone.

What seemed an easy task (two to three evenings of refiguring) developed
into a laborious project. Anyway, I learned a lot, including such an
all-important skill as fine grinding "blindly" while watching a movie.

Regards,

Guntram Lampert
